John Jantsch’s The Referral Engine

by Todd Schnick on May 16, 2010

I had the distinct pleasure of receiving an advance copy of John Jantsch’s latest book, The Referral Engine. It was a wonderful book, and even if referrals are a small part of your business development strategy, you need to read this book.

As important as referrals and word of mouth marketing are for small business, MOST have not built a referral culture into their business, and they are suffering as a result. This book serves up plenty of profound content to help you grow that culture, and help you arm your customers with a great story to tell the marketplace, and excite them into telling people about you and your business.

Thanks for the opportunity to review an advance copy, John. Much appreciated!

Todd, based on your recommendation I just ordered the book. Even though it looks like a book developed for smaller business owners, knowing how to get referrals is critical in every aspect of business. For a job seeker this is critical, for a recruiter looking for passive candidates this is also essential. I'm looking forward to sharing my thoughts on the book once I've read it. Thanks for taking the time to share this resource here. Marguerite

Thanks for the nice review and love that you picked up on the culture and story elements. So many people think it's all about reminding customers to refer.

Marguerite – glad to hear Todd enticed you to pick up the book. So far some of the biggest praise has come from folks from very large businesses seeing the way to grow a business outlined in the book as the new way to market very large organizations today as well.

You are welcome, and thanks again for the chance to provide a review. If you FOCUS intently on the culture and story elements, you might not have to ask for referrals. They will naturally come…

    Todd,
This book was is on my to read list, but your review, has moved it up on my list. I really enjoyed John's post on Chris Brogan's site where he talked about employers need to think about how they treat their employees. I don't know why I didn't buy the book then. It sounds like this book builds on the human as business model a model I embrace wholly.
Thanks for being my reminder this week and for being a site I read consistently and want to refer folks in my tribe to as well.

And thanks for being who you are, and for being an example of the kind of people to look up to, and recognize as someone who understands the “referral culture” that John talks about…
