The world is moving, get in the game and play

Todd SchnickOk. As I write this, I am sitting in the Delta Sky Club, near Gate B24, having a cocktail, and writing a perfunctory blog post to kill time…

Yes…you guessed it. Flight delay.

But you know, it is funny. As the photo shows, I have a lovely view of the tarmac with A terminal off yonder.

I’ve watched dozens and dozens of planes taking off from here, watched some leave, watched some arrive, and countless baggage trucks scurrying around.

The chaos is intoxicating. Who are all these people? Where are they going? What are they doing?

And then, behind me, is a Sky Club packed with people, also cocktailing their way through flight delays and waiting on connections. Some are dressed in three-piece suits…and some are in shorts, tee shirts, and flip flops.

Who are all THESE people? Where are they going? What are they doing?

And yes, I can’t help but eavesdrop on their conversations. I’ve probably overheard a dozen calls whilst sitting with my beer.

People giving approvals, people suggesting delays, people getting updates, people giving updates, people offering praise, people scolding for this and that.

Point is, people doing stuff. Making stuff. Moving stuff.

It’s scintillating. And exciting.

And there’s someone sitting three rows over who’s perhaps observed me sitting in my corner writing, and she’s blogging about the people around her.

The world is moving my friend. People are moving. People are connecting. People are creating. People are doing.

You forget that sometimes when you are stuck in your office stalled on a project…when you are sitting with writer’s block….when you are procrastinating.

You know what I am saying?

While you are sitting there, stuck, bored, stalled, killing time, wasting time, watching cat videos…whatever…

….there are millions of people all around us kicking ass and moving. It never stops. It never ends.

The world is moving. Get in the damn game and play.

Get on the list. And learn some other ways you can get in the game.

[Update] My dear friend Patti DeNucci offered some additional commentary on my essay above….

Of course there is a flight delay. You chose Delta. What else is new?

  • Todd Schnick

as an atlantan, you learn to build this into your schedule planning….
