On the serious side, though, I’m always surprised at how so many people think of all networking, not just social networking, as being frivolous. They assume that because *they* don’t get serious results, that networking is not a serious business development tool.
Maybe they don’t get good results *because* they don’t take it seriously.

Beth, I run into people every day who don’t take networking seriously. And what I find most amusing is that they don’t realize they are participating in networking.
Networking doesn’t just happen at a formal networking group – it happens online, at church, at school, and while working at the local coffee shop.
Networking begins to pay off with sustained activity, effort, and time. And most people don’t have the discipline to do that. Thus, they knock it.

I am trying to get a handle on twitter. I see the value in it, but am having troulbe getting my arms around the effort required. I am not sure it will ever be worth the effort required to build it up and drive traffic.

Thanks for your comment Ken. Yes, Twitter is awkward at first. There is a different strategy and means to build up a community, say verses Facebook and/or LinkedIn.
It can take a while to build a community, but you are better off having a smaller amount of followers who want your information, verses a lot of followers just for the sake of having lots of followers.
I have slowly built up a community over time. Some people collect thousands of followers in a matter of weeks. I built my list over months and months. And I only put in 15 to 30 minutes (at most) per day…
