I wrote a while back about joining and participating in LinkedIn groups. I said it was a great way to interact with people, and give value and demonstrate expertise by answering questions and engaging in dialog.

My opinion hasn’t changed. It’s just been modified. Now I also think it a great idea to FORM your own LinkedIn group!

Maybe this doesn’t make sense for everyone, but what a great way to build a community – and be able to give forward and provide value. If you desire to spread ideas that matter, this is one of many great social media applications to do it!

I just formed my own new marketing group on LinkedIn. I know, the last thing LinkedIn needs perhaps, is yet another marketing group. And that’s why I held off for a while. But then it dawned on me, it’s not about everyone on LinkedIn – it’s about the people that matter to me, and the people who believe in what WE are doing.

I don’t care if my group membership ever exceeds 100 people. If my members are getting value from our group dialog, then it is worth every penny.

So I went ahead and started one, just two days ago. And as of this writing, I have already exceeded my initial goals of membership, and there are already people interacting and serving each other – after just TWO days!

Rest assured – I will continue to participate and engage in many other LinkedIn groups. But now I have my own community I can tend to, serve, and give value to. Remember, marketing is now interactive – a two-way dialog – a conversation. Whatever you can do to facilitate communication between those in your community, including prospects – the better!

Find me on LinkedIn here, and join my group called “Be An Intrepid Marketer!”

Be Intrepid.

Great post! At our Toastmasters group, three of us decided to join a little “Mastermind” group where we help each other out with what we know and what we’re good at. I think forming a group this way is much better than forming a group, expecting a membership of 1000+. Quality over quantity.
